Sigma Omega Nu

On July 23, 2011, nine diverse women at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, established
the Lambda chapter of Sigma Omega Nu, Latina Interest Sorority Inc. These young
women are: Irene Zepeda, Narcisa Zepeda, Sarah Saenz, Cecilia Medina, Kayla Johnson,
Layla Medina, Jessica Becerra, Sara Martinez and Angela Ferreiro. The journey started in
September of 2009, when best friends, Cynthia Hernandez and Irene Zepeda, began
searching for a sorority that would unite them as hermanas. After realizing none of the
sororities on campus met their needs, they expanded their search and found Sigma
Omega Nu. They were drawn to this sorority because of their objectives: Academics,
Cultura and Sisterhood. As well as their purpose to help the community, raise cultural
awareness, and achieve high academic success.  As an organization of strong women we
hope to bring a positive change to the university and in our community. As sisters we will
create a sunnier life. Together as one we shine like the sun.
